On Easter Sunday, April 1, 1934, John Bosco, an Italian priest and missionary to children, was canonized a saint. That day, Fr. Paul Schmid, the principal of Catholic Central High School in Hammond dedicated his parish in honor of St. John Bosco, the first parish in the world named for the new saint.
With more than 450 families across South Hammond, Woodmar, Munster and beyond, St. John Bosco Catholic Church continues to be Christ's heart and hands to the community, the Region and the world. With many ministry opportunities, this is a family where all can find their niche and all can belong.
